Drawings
Works on paper after 2022 increasingly abandoned an earlier lyricism in favour of a more abrasive and direct mode of drawing. They trace a material progression from early charcoal and ink, through graphite on paper, and eventually onto synthetic Yupo. Each surface has altered the behaviour of the materials, moving from immediacy and gestural control toward greater accumulation, erasure, visual doubt and revision. Rather than a linear development, the drawings represent an ongoing search for surfaces capable of accommodating uncertainty. Increasingly, Inchbold has sought to establish drawing as an equal and independent practice alongside painting, rather than as a preparatory or secondary activity.
